Android Developer for Instagram Explore

My best work comes when developing customer-focused features across the entire technical stack.

Background

I started my career at 18 working for Switch Media in Sydney, Australia, where I had many roles including Support Engineer, DevOps, and Web Developer. The startup culture exposed me to all parts of the web stack and showed me the process of developing products with the customer in mind.

Enrolling at Tufts University, I focused on a technical education while continuing to develop my business and product intuition. I studied Computer Science in the School of Engineering with a minor in Entrepreneurship. This combination gave me the broader technical skills and thinking to do fast, iterative product development.

While a freshman, I continued working from my dorm room for Switch Media on a Roku app for the Presto streaming service. I developed a fully-functional app including carousels to browse TV and movie content, search, and playback functionality.

As a sophomore I interned for the Lead Ads Product team at Facebook where I defined a new architecture for the Android codebase and introduced new product features across their entire platform including web, Android, and iOS. The next year I interned with Instagram's Developer Velocity team where I focused on redesigning a web app used by developers across the organization to build features faster.

I now live in New York City developing new features for Instagram Explore on Android.

Hobbies

When I’m not developing, I enjoy running, hiking, and travel photography. I recently spent four months backpacking around Europe and another six weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia. I enjoy the self-reliance and meditative nature of solo travel and find it pairs nicely with photography’s quiet observation of the world.
